[OUR BREAD AND BUTTER] The Heal App: House Call Doctors on Demand
What would you pay for the convenience of a doctor making a visit to your family room? For many, it might be worth a premium, but doctors are on-call for no more than you would spend in a doctor’s office through a smartphone app called Heal.
A request for a doctor on Heal can bring one to your home the same day—sometimes even sooner than two hours.
Compare that to the traditional system we are all used to where it can take you up to 20 days to get an appointment.
Heal doctors are more than happy to make house calls for primary care, internal medicine, pediatrics, and urgent and preventative care, seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
They arrive well equipped with the same medications and equipment you’d find in a general practice clinic and are teamed with a certified medical assistant.
For repeat clients, patient history and records are kept in the app so the doctor is familiar with your case upon arrival.
Compared to an HMO urgent care setting where a patient visit with a doctor is usually less than 10 minutes, there is no time limit for Heal doctors who spend 25-30 minutes on average to diagnose and treat a patient.
“That extra time is golden and the reason why parents and patients enjoy the experience so much,” says Dr. Thomas Ryou, MD, a Stanford University-trained general pediatrician who is local to Hancock Park.
“If you talk to different physicians, being rushed to see patients is what they like least about the job,” said Ryou. It’s awesome to provide the type of medicine you always wanted.”
Home visits give Heal doctors a more complete picture of the environmental and lifestyle factors that might play into health care as they get to know their patients over time.
And don’t worry, cutting out the overhead of the traditional practice allows doctors to be well compensated.
Incredibly, with preferred provider option insurance, this upgraded service is available for the same co-pay that you would shell out at a doctor’s office.
With an HMO plan or no insurance, the visit is still a reasonable $99.
“People are starting to get over the [idea] that quality care only happens in an office,” says Amy Cohn, head of marketing at Heal.
Beyond the convenience, Heal is changing the rules of primary care for patients. There’s no longer a need to wait, or to pile yourself and loved ones into the car to sit in a waiting room with potentially more sick people.
Heal will you help you get a doctor right away, right when you need it the most, anytime and anywhere.
